Bishop Brings Thought-Provoking Sermon and Beautiful Crozier to Visit

by Pat Taylor

The Rt. Rev. Edna Bavi "Nedi" Rivera, assisting bishop of southern Ohio, came to St. Barnabas November 10 and spoke to us about resurrection and the mysteries of the Bible. Her crozier, or bishop's staff, is a beautiful piece of artwork carved especially for her in the northwest. She spoke of the meaning of each of the pieces that made up the crozier. After church, she spoke with members of the congregation, including, above, Deb Ramsey.

The first Latina bishop and the 12th woman bishop in The Episcopal Church, she served for 10 years as rector of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, San Francisco and earned an M.Div and a D.D. from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, California.
