SERVICES

Our Sunday services are a mix of friendly and formal. We sing hymns, yet offertory music, preludes, and postludes can vary widely.

All baptized Christians are welcome to participate in Holy Communion. Please ask if you'd like a gluten-free wafer.

Pastor Joanna will bless anyone with a birthday or wedding anniversary who wishes to come to the front of the church.

If there is a Level 2 or 3 Snow Emergency in Hamilton County, services and events will be cancelled, and the office will be closed. Please check Hamilton County Weather Alerts.

Guidelines for In-Person Services

updated May 6, 2021

Sunday, May 23 we will be adding an in-person service at 10 a.m. We will not be asking for reservations, except for special Sundays (like St. Barnabas Day!). Our 8 a.m. in-person service will continue. Beginning on May 23, we will no longer offer a Zoom service or Zoom coffee hour.

  • Many things about this service will remain the same as our current in-person services:

  • Masks are required inside the building at all times. At this time, face shields do not meet this requirement. Masks are also required outside in congregant settings.

  • We will also follow social distancing guidelines, maintaining 6 feet of space between members of different households.

  • The Great Hall, Undercroft, and Library will remain closed on Sunday mornings.

  • Holy Communion will continue to be offered, with bread only.

  • We encourage you to check for symptoms, and if you are feeling unwell, we invite you to join us through the livestreamed service.

As scientists have learned more about how this coronavirus spreads, some of the measures the CDC previously put in place have changed:

  • We will have prayer books and Bibles in the pews.

  • We will pass the offering plate.

  • We will have singers socially distanced and masked in our choir loft.

  • We will have paper bulletins available. We do encourage you to use the QR code to access the digital bulletin and help us conserve resources.

  • The balcony will be open to allow for greater social distancing.

We will also offer in-person, outdoor Church School for Pre-K through 12th grade at 10 a.m. Please note: the back portion of our parking lot will be blocked off for the safety of our children and volunteers. The Nursery will also be available.

The Diocese released some updated guidelines for worship at the end of April. You may view the guidelines here.

If you are not ready to join us in person, if you’re feeling unwell, or if you’re out of town, we invite you to join our livestreamed service. This will be nearly identical to the pre-recorded service we currently offer. We will still send an email on Sunday mornings with a link directly to the service. You will also be able to find the service on the same place on our YouTube page, and the same place on the homepage of our website. Additionally, we hope to stream the service to Facebook Live if you prefer to watch it there.

If you have any questions, please contact Joanna at clergy@st-barnabas.org.

Rain Plan

Godly Play and Sunday’s Cool Experience:

For now, if there is a chance of inclement weather, we will cancel children’s Church School classes. St. B staff will make the call Saturday night at 9 p.m. If Accuweather indicates that there is a 50% chance of rain at 10 a.m. Sunday, we will cancel Church School. Families are welcome to attend “Big Church” on these days or join us for Zoom Godly Play.

If we need to cancel, we will make the announcement on Saturday night on our St. Barnabas Facebook page, Families with Young Children Facebook group, and in the Sunday morning services email.
