Position: Children Ministry Assistant, Part Time

Organization: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church

Reports to: Director of Children and Family Ministries

Hours: 5 - 6 hours per week

Salary:  $18-20/hour

Schedule: 2 - 3 hours on Sunday, beginning at 9:30 am, from September to May (year round is also possible); plus additional hours during the week

Position: The Children’s Ministry Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Director of Children and Family Ministries and church volunteers, while helping to build relationships with our children and parents. The successful candidate will be a warm presence in our church, will teach young children, and will help coordinate the work of our ministry.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • At least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with children ages three to ten

  • Background check and Safeguarding God’s Children training (provided)

  • Godly Play training (can be provided)

Essential Duties & Job Description:

  • Warmly greet children and parents 

  • Work to build relationships with families and between children

  • Assist in teaching and coordinating Sunday school

  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment

  • Assistant in preparing the classroom spaces and lessons for Sunday morning

  • 2-3 hours on required Sundays and additional flexible hours during the week

General Qualifications

  • Good moral character and dependability

  • Friendly and warm demeanor

  • Ability to work with children and adults

Physical requirements

  • This employee is frequently required to stand, sit on the floor, walk, and speak; use fingers and hands in a variety of tasks. This employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, maneuver stairs, and move about in a variety of locations.
