Lent and Easter

The Season of Lent

We are in the season of Lent (from an Old English word meaning “spring,” the time of lengthening days).

Lent is the season of preparation as we journey with Jesus toward the cross and prepare for his death and resurrection.

This is a time to lay bare all that separates us from God and one another.

Traditionally, Christians commit to devotional practices, engaging in self-examination, prayer, fasting and meditating on God’s word as we seek transformation.

The season of Lent is an invitation to change our hearts and our ways, and to participate in God’s work of redemption.

We are called to respond afresh to God’s presence in our lives and in our world.

We seek to place our needs, our fears, our failures, our hopes, our very lives in God’s hands, allowing God’s transforming grace to renew us once more.

Sundays in Lent

  • Sunday 9 a.m. Reflection Group: A Circle of Quiet

    Starting Sunday, February 22 | 9:00 a.m.

The Bible is brimming with stories of struggle, pain, joy, and wonder – just like the stories of our lives. Inspired by author Madeline L’Engle’s autobiography, A Circle of Quiet, we will reflect on our own spiritual journeys and listen for God’s call in our lives.

  • Gather & Grace: Lenten Soup Sundays

    Sundays in Lent | 11:15 a.m. | Undercroft

Each week, we come together to share beloved soup recipes from our parish family, fostering a spirit of community and simple nourishment as we journey through Lent. Join us as we embrace the warmth of shared meals and the joy of gathering together.

  • A Wilderness Adventure: Lenten Series

    Sundays in Lent | 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Exodus is one of the greatest Bible stories ever told. The story of Israel’s enslavement in Egypt, daring escape, and journey through the desert toward the Promised Land will be our guide this Lent. Each week we will gather for learning and reflection to engage the story and will conclude with a shared meal.

Practices for Your Lenten Journey

  • Lenten Adult Formation: How to Study the Bible

    Starting Wednesday, March 4 - April 1 | 7:00 p.m. | Great Hall

Each week, we come together to share beloved soup recipes from our parish family, fostering a spirit of community and simple nourishment as we journey through Lent. Join us as we embrace the warmth of shared meals and the joy of gathering together.

  • Life in Prayer: Visio Divina "Gratitude in Gifting" Series

    Mondays | 11:00 a.m. | Chapel of the Rose

During our Lenten Visio Divina we will practice recognizing “enoughness” by spending 5 weeks meditating with works of art.  As in the past, Kathy Stockman will share works of art from various periods, genres, and cultures. While this may invite a traditional Lenten fast, “Gratitude in Gifting” is an invitation to experience gratitude in our gifting to others.

Dates for this session will be: Feb 16, March 2, March 9, March 23, and March 30

  • Lent Madness

Learn about the Saints and have fun! 32 saints are placed into a tournament-like single elimination bracket. Each pairing remains open for a set period of time and people vote for their favorite saint and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. You can follow along online throughout Lent.

Holy Week at St. Barnabas

Journey with Jesus through these sacred days.

Holy Week is the most solemn and sacred time of the Christian year, when we are invited by our liturgical tradition to contemplate the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion, death and resurrection.

We are also invited to take these ancient liturgies into our own hearts and consider what they might mean for us in this moment, opening ourselves to the possibility of grace and transformation. We invite you to journey with Jesus through these sacred days.

During Holy Week, we will hear about Jesus' final days in Jerusalem, the story of his Last Supper with friends and his Passion and death on the cross. As we experience his love and commitment to being with us even unto the point of death, we remember that we are not alone. Jesus is with us even now.
